Broken Bow City Council Appoints City Administrator
The Broken Bow City Council met in person on Tuesday night and appointed a new city administrator.

BROKEN BOW—A new city administrator was appointed by the Broken Bow City Council on Tuesday night for a position which has been vacant for more than a year. Dan Knoell has been appointed to the position upon completing his contract as Executive Director with Sherman County Economic Development.

Following the city council meeting on June 9, Mayor Rod Sonnichsen said the search for a city administrator began with 10 applicants and was narrowed down to two, who were interviewed last week. Sonnichsen said Knoell has degrees in public administration and psychology. Sonnichsen said Knoell and his family will be a good fit for Broken Bow.

During the meeting, a lot split and rezone was also approved at 182 East South N. Street for property owner Kenny Myers. Myers said he wanted to split the lot and rezone in order to finance his house separately from the rest of the property. City Clerk and Zoning Administrator Stephanie Wright said the request was approved by the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment, but required Ordinance 1225 to rezone the property to an “R1” designation. The council approved the lot split and the ordinance.

The city council also approved various appointments for city staff and department heads. Council President Jacob Holcomb made a motion and Larry Miller seconded a motion to approve the appointments with the exception of Electrical Superintendent Jeremy Tarr, who was not reappointed. The motion passed four to zero. Mayor Sonnichsen said the council based its decision off of its time and experience with department supervisors. He also said the job opening for Streets Superintendent will be posted this week.
