Black Ice Blamed for Late-Night Accidents in Columbus

COLUMBUS - As the temperature dropped last night, black ice on bridges is to blame for multiple accidents just south of Columbus. At 11:00 p.m. Platte County deputies and a Columbus city officer responded to multiple non-injury accidents on the Platte and Loup River bridges. At one point, five cars had lost control on the Platte River bridge alone. Another two-car accident occurred on the south side of the Loup River Bridge. Authorities closed the northbound lanes from Highway 64 and re-routed traffic through Schuyler. NDOT salt trucks arrived shortly after midnight and worked to get traffic moving again.
