Benefit for 2-Year-Old Toby Horky this Sunday in Sargent

SARGENT—You hear it said that “it takes a village” and it is once again time for community members to come together for another family whose child is fighting a condition with all his little body has got.

Toby Horky is the two-year-old son of Terry and Chandra Horky and is the youngest of four kids. Burwell/Taylor United Methodist Church Pastor Dennis Davenport said the Horky family farms in the Sargent area but has been faced with the overwhelming task of paying for medical care for Toby who has NF 1 (Neurofibromatosis type 1) and Mid Aortic Syndrome.

“There’s portions of that aorta that are constricted or really narrowed and so it restricts the blood flow into critical organs like his kidneys and so forth. It makes his blood pressure be quite elevated. And the little guy [Toby] is so charming and, you know, everybody is rooting for him and praying for him,” Pastor Davenport said.

Davenport told KCNI/KBBN that the family has recently traveled to a children’s hospital in Boston to get care for Toby. Family, friends, Sargent Volunteer EMTs, Sargent Firemen, and Calvary United Methodist Church in Taylor are coming together to host a free-will donation lunch and auction benefit to help with medical, travel, and hotel expenses of the family.

The benefit for Toby Horky will be on Sunday, June 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sargent Community Center (314 W Main St, Sargent, NE 68874) with the auction beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Davenport said the family appreciates all of the prayers and all of the individuals, groups, and businesses who have come together to host this Sunday’s benefit.

“That’s what we’re called to do. We’re called to care for our brothers and sisters and look out for one another and that’s exactly what this community is all about and active in doing, and we’re celebrating that,” Pastor Davenport said.
