Barrel Racing Back in Columbus for 2nd Year

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Barrel racing fans flocked to Ag Park on Saturday for an entire evening of action. The Jackpot series returned to Ag Park for its second year in November, and on Saturday over 100 total riders participated in the activity that includes going around three barrels in a clover pattern, before sprinting home. Committee member Chantel Sempek says that the event takes on a wide-range of age groups. "We have anywhere from three-year-olds doing pee-wee, to ladies in their eighties," says Sempek. Barrel racing is not the lone activity happening in the evening with folks also participating in pole bending. But barrel racing, the more popular event, is certainly the reason that hundreds come to Columbus from all across the area. "It's competition, it's the thrill of the ride I guess, so that's why most of us are in it. And we love the animals that we're sitting on, so it's just a fun event," says Sempek. The series will go on in Columbus until the spring of next year.
