Baler Starts Grass Fire Southwest Of Broken Bow

A bearing on a baler started a small grass fire on Monday, August 17 that burned less than an acre of pasture land.

According to Broken Bow Fire and EMS Coordinator Andy Holland, crews were dispatched just before 5 PM to a grass fire southwest of Broken Bow on private land. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and return to the fire station at 6:30 PM.

Holland stated that a bearing broke off of the baler and started the grass on fire next to the baler. While the baler did not suffer any damage, the fire did burn approximately 1/2 an acre of ground before Broken Bow firefighters were able to put water on the flames.

Three grass fire trucks, two water tankers, and fourteen firemen were dispatched to the scene.
