Arnold Devil’s Den Poker Run July 11 with Proceeds Going to Mike Nelson & Family

ARNOLD—As with most events scheduled in 2020, the Arnold Devil’s Den Motorcycle Rally has altered its yearly festivities to include only the Poker Run this year—but for another great cause.

The Poker Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 with registration taking place at Jake’s Horses and Harleys Grille in Arnold from 10 to 11 a.m. All vehicles welcome.

Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions, the Devil’s Den Board decided to do the Poker Run only this year rather than the traditional weekend rally which has included live music, raffle prizes, contests, BBQ, and fun for kids the past eight years.

This year looks different for many reasons but especially for Board President Mike Nelson who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma this spring. A May 1 post on the Devil’s Den Motorcycle Rally Facebook page outlines that Mike has been undergoing treatment and is unable to work during this time. All proceeds from this year’s Poker Run will go to Mike Nelson, his wife Kendra, and their two children Jasmine and Dylan.

The Facebook post reads the following:

“At the beginning of April, Mike started having back pain that would not go away. As the pain progressed, Mike was referred on for more testing, which revealed the cancer. Mike and his family are starting treatment which means Mike is unable to work and they do not have any health insurance.

Please, consider helping this wonderful family out as they begin the hardest battle they have ever faced. Mike and Kendra have two children, Jasmine, who is a current student at UNL and Dylan, who is graduating from Arnold Public Schools in the next few weeks.

You can donate directly to the family by writing a check to Devil’s Den and mailing (or dropping off) at Pinnacle Bank, 122 South Walnut St. Arnold, NE 69120-write in the memo Mike Nelson.”

The board encourages the public to come have a good time for a good cause this weekend and to bring anything with wheels and a motor to the poker run such as motorcycles, cars, pickups, jeeps, and buses.

In a 2018 interview with KCNI/KBBN, Mike Nelson said the rally is all about fun, friendship, and getting together with the community for people who love music and motorcycles.

“Every year we keep getting bigger and bigger. There’s more people showing up. We’re getting more and more bikes taking the poker run every year,” Nelson said.
