Antique Tractors, Vendors and More Line Streets of Steele City

STEELE CITY - Treasures were to be found and tractors were to be seen, through rain or shine. Steele City's annual Flea Market, Tractor Show and Living History Weekend went on despite heavy rainstorms on Saturday. Jefferson County Historical Society President Dennis Kenning says, "I think - lower temperatures, it's been cooler so I think people later on in the day came out. We're kind of happy with the turn out for the weather we had this morning. The weather did affect our tractor pull. Our numbers were down with the number of tractors there." With the co-ed volleyball tournament being the only thing that was cancelled on Saturday, the weekend was still filled with events. Saturday night was capped off with a live performance by the Caleb Bradley Band. On Sunday, Steele City hosted a Tractor Drive and Tractor Parade. Though sometimes unnoticed, there were many volunteers that help put the events together this weekend. Kenning says, "Oh man - a ton of work goes into this. We're really blessed to have some really great volunteers that help. I do want to mention - you know, we have tours of the buildings. We have live demonstrations. One thing we had - really liked, we had Kirk Schroeder brought in his team of mules and he dresses the attire for that vintage, or that year. It's just like you're walking around in the late 1800's, early 1900's. We're very blessed to have these historical buildings in Steele City, Nebraska."
