Annual MNAC Art Show This Weekend in Broken Bow

Annual MNAC Art Show This Weekend in Broken Bow
MNAC Art Show 2018

BROKEN BOW–The 2020 Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference Art Show will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Broken Bow High School Activities Building, coinciding with the MNAC Basketball Tournament.

The K-12 Art Teacher and Title I teacher in Sargent Teri Smith said she enjoys seeing how students get excited to look at what other schools are doing. Fourteen schools will have art on display and Smith said students have been working on these projects for several months.

“Just come out and check out all the awesome work that we have. It’s amazing what you can go see and what some of these high school students can do already,” Smith said.

For this show, each school is limited to five entries, per category, for both the high school show and the junior high show. Judges will provide feedback for teachers and students which Smith says is beneficial for students to hear an outside opinion.

“I think it just helps so they can see and hear what other people’s opinions are of their work and get a different view,” said Smith, who is in her third year as the art teacher in Sargent.

Judging will begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1 and run until 1:00 p.m., at which time the judges will be expected to present a short critique for teachers and students. The MNAC Art Show will be open to the public at 2:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. Tear down will begin at 8:00 p.m. and not before.

For the show, there will be 14 categories in both senior high and junior high. For each category, the conference has order 1st-5th place awards as well as approximately 5 Honorable Mention ribbons per category. The judges are expected to give out all of the awards if possible.

There will also be a Best of Show award and Runner-up Best of Show award in both senior high and junior high.
