At its regular meeting on December 17th, the Anselmo-Merna Public School Board of Education approved two action items critical to the improvement and success of the school district. After accepting the resignation of current superintendent Logan Lightfoot (effective at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year), the board selected a superintendent search firm to assist in naming the future district leader.
The district will partner with the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB). The board identified NASB as a natural fit to assist in selecting A-M’s next superintendent.
Board president Michelle Miller spoke further about this decision. “Our board hates to see Dr. Lightfoot depart, but we are excited to get to work on continuing our journey. A big piece of continuing the journey and building on the momentum that we have is selecting our next superintendent. NASB knows our administration, staff, board and district well, as they recently helped facilitate the process of developing our strategic plan. We have a great school and staff, high achieving students, and a wealth of community support. We anticipate great candidates applying for this important leadership role.”
Before the end of the year, the board will meet with search consultant Shari Becker to establish the selection timeline.
The board also approved BD Construction as the General Contractor for the South (Main) Entrance Renovation Project. This project will improve building safety by adding a vestibule entrance, and repurposing the current offices and work spaces on the south end of the building.
Superintendent Logan Lightfoot said, “This is a needed enhancement to our facility. When completed, this will provide an additional layer of safety to our school building, and also help create a more welcoming environment to anyone who is a visitor to A-M. Even with the delays in construction materials, I anticipate this project to be completed by the end of the school year. There should be minimal interruptions to academic and extra-curricular programming while the project is being completed.” Construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the calendar year.
