2018 Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway Annual Awards Banquet Held In Broken Bow.

The 2018 Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway (SJSB) Annual Awards Banquet was held this past weekend in Broken Bow.  A tour of Broken Bow and wine and cheese reception at the Tourism Barn kicked off the event Friday.  A full day of activities took place Saturday, January 13th at the One Box Convention Center.

Broken Bow Mayor Cecil Burt welcomed the participants and thanked them for holding their annual meeting in Broken Bow this year. Mayor Burt also highlighted some of the beautiful stops and shopping opportunities travelers miss when traveling Interstate 80.

Linda Lacy is a small business owner in Ashby Nebraska and has served as the Byways President. During her presentation, she said spending time with the Scenic Journey Byways has made her aware of all the grant opportunities for small businesses in Nebraska.

The Key Note speaker of the day was Nebraska’s Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley. Foley talked about the importance of agriculture, industry, and tourism. He also thanked the volunteers for the many hours they have spent promoting the Highway 2 journey through the Sandhills.

Bill Burdett with Agri Tours in Rural Nebraska was given the SJSB Community Enhancement Award. Mitch Hunt with Huntrex Digital Agency received The SJSB Business of the Year and Rick Maas of Broken Bow received the SJSB Friend of the Byways Award.
