19-year-old Arrested for DUI After Hitting Power Pole and Fleeing Scene

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus man hit a power pole with alcohol in his system and then fled the scene on Saturday morning, according to police. The Columbus Police Department says a 19-year-old Columbus man was driving south on St. Francis Roadway when he attempted to turn right on to 27th St. The Chrysler 200 he was driving slid on ice and hit a power pole, according to the report. CPD Captain Todd Thalken says he then fled on foot. The man was given a ticket at his residence a few hours later. The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday. He was later arrested for DUI, MIP and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a misdemeanor. The damage to the pole was around $2,000.
