16 Accidents Reported on Icy Monday

COLUMBUS - City and county authorities were busy covering accidents around Columbus during an icy start to the week. Freezing rain passed through the area Sunday night into Monday morning, and traveling conditions were less than ideal. According to reports, Columbus Police and the Platte County Sheriff's Office responded to 16 different accidents throughout the day. Of the 16 accidents, only one of the accidents was reported to involve injuries, but details on that accident are not yet available. The reported injury accident occurred on 3rd Avenue at roughly 6:41 p.m. Also included in the 16 accidents were two hit and runs, that police responded too, as well as 3 vehicles leaving the roadway and going into ditches outside of city limits, says reports. The remaining 11 accidents did not have any reported injuries, according to current information, but some vehicles did suffer heavy damage. Icy rain, and snow, passed through the area again Tuesday evening, but road conditions appeared to have been in a better state than during Monday morning's commute.
