1 of 4 girls injured in Cass County tubing accident sustained head injuries, sheriff says

A 47-year-old Omaha man was ticketed on suspicion of negligent driving after four girls were injured while tubing on Lake Waconda in Cass County.
The girls, three of whom are 13 and one who is 15, were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after the Saturday incident. One of the girls was taken by medical helicopter in critical condition with head injuries, according to a statement from Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann. The other three girls were transported by ambulance "with reports of a broken femur and broken pelvis among other injuries," Brueggemann said. The names of the girls were not released.
Fire department members from Union, Nehawka, Murray and Plattsmouth were called to the lake 25 miles south of Omaha about 5 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said a powerboat "was driving at excessive speeds and made a quick turn, which threw the four girls from the tube into the rock wall on the northeast side of Lake Waconda," Brueggemann said. Nebraska Game and Parks officers also were called to the scene to investigate. The incident is still under investigation.
