BROKEN BOW— On Friday, May 1 Runza in Broken Bow helped raise awareness for suicide prevention while also honoring past staff member, Seth Brouwer, who took his own life in 2019.
During the day, customers that went through the drive-through were treated to an ice cream cone or medium drink free of charge thanks to the generosity of Seth’s family. The Runza staff also provided the Suicide Prevention Hotline to customers. The Brouwer family parked Seth’s Jeep near the front of the parking lot that featured a picture of Seth with the Suicide Prevention Hotline number also on the photo.
Joyce Richardson spoke on the Get Up and Go Breakfast show and said that Seth’s family had approached Runza and wanted to do something in memory of Seth who had been an integral team member of the store.
“The Brouwer’s and our teammates as well, certainly [want to make sure] if we can help another family from going through what they have gone through we certainly want to be able to do that,” said Joyce. “Every life is valuable and every life matters.”
Seth’s mother, Mary Beth Brouwer, also spoke on the show and said, “If we can prevent another family from going through the pain we have gone through, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his life and the person he was.”
