PITTSBURGH — Nebraska turned in a strong performance in Friday night’s session at the NCAA championships, with four Huskers became All-Americans.
Senior Tyler Berger led the way, moving into Saturday night’s championship match at 157 pounds. Berger recorded takedowns in the first and second periods in downing Iowa’s Kaleb Young 5-3 in the semis.
Berger, now is a three-time All-American, is the first Husker since TJ Dudley in 2016 to reach the final. Berger, who improved to 28-3 this season, will face defending champion Jason Nolf of Penn State. Nolf has defeated Berger twice this season, including in the Big Ten meet’s final two weeks ago.
Also earning All-America status for the Huskers were Isaiah White at 165, freshman Mikey Labriola at 174 and 141-pound CJ Red, who became a two-time All-American. Taylor Venz, an All-American last year, fell one win short of that status.
Nebraska heads into the final day seventh in the team standings with 51 points. Penn State leads with 120.5, 32 more than Ohio State. Iowa is fourth with 68 points.
Iowa’s Spencer Lee, who won the 125-pound weight class last year, is back in the final. He is the Hawkeyes’ lone finalist.
