Tristen Edwards’ hot bat leads to Husker sharing Big Ten player of the week honor

Tristen Edwards’ hand in Nebraska starting the softball season with a 5-1 record has led to the sophomore being named Big Ten co-player of the week.

The infielder and outfielder from Murrieta, California, had 11 hits over the six games, including a home run and a double. In two games Sunday, she reached base safely in all six of her plate appearances.

Two of the Huskers’ wins at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona, came against No. 19 BYU and No. 15 Utah.

Edwards, who hit .281 with 25 RBIs as a freshman, shared the award with Minnesota outfielder Dani Wagner. Shelby McCombs of Ohio State was the conference pitcher of the week.

The Huskers travel to Atlanta this weeked for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. NU starts with a Friday game against Georgia Tech.
