Three-run homers put Huskers in control

LINCOLN — A pair of three-run home runs in the second inning Tuesday powered Nebraska to a 9-2 softball victory over South Dakota.

Alyvia Simmons and winning pitcher Lindsey Walljasper hit those home runs before an announced crowd of 645 at Bowlin Stadium. Tristen Edwards had two doubles to extend her on-base streak to 15 games.

Walljasper pitched five innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. Courtney Wallace pitched two innings of scoreless relief, giving up just one walk while striking out two.

Nebraska will play a doubleheader against Iowa on Wednesday in Iowa City beginning at 4 p.m. before returning to Lincoln for its final home series of the season, three games against Big Ten foe Maryland.
