Strong start helps Nebraska wrestling cruise at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Nebraska won six of the first eight matches as the 13th-ranked Huskers rolled to a 28-13 dual win over West Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

With the dual starting at 141 pounds, Nebraska led 13-6 at the midway point before picking up three consecutive bonus-point wins to extend the lead to 28-6.

Taylor Venz (184 pounds) won a 17-5 major decision over Brenden McRill before Eric Schultz rolled to a 22-5 technical fall over Hunter DeLong at 197. Sophomore David Jensen then recorded Nebraska’s first pin of the dual season as he ended his heavyweight match with Brandon Ngati 17 seconds into the second period.

NU’s Isaiah White also picked up a dominant win at 165 as he recorded seven takedowns and a reversal in a 17-7 major decision over Ryan Lopez.

The Huskers will return to action Friday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
