There really wasn’t an alternative.
Stanley Morgan says he was always going to be a Husker for his senior year.
“I could’ve gone to the NFL but personally I wanted to go back and play for another season,” Morgan told The World-Herald on Thursday.
At some point after Nebraska’s 2017 season ended — a season in which Morgan caught 61 passes for a school record 986 yards — the junior wideout from New Orleans said he thought briefly about the possibility of leaving school early for the NFL draft.
But the talks never really got that serious, Morgan said. The pull of finishing his career at Nebraska, he said, was too strong.
“There wasn’t really another option. I wanted to come back,” Morgan said.
With the firing of head coach Mike Riley and wide receivers coach Keith Williams, Morgan said at no point did he consider transferring from Nebraska.
“That’s not me,” Morgan said. “That’s not what I’m about. I’m all Nebraska.”
The news of Morgan’s return means new head coach Scott Frost will keep one of Nebraska’s most dynamic playmakers from the 2017 season. Morgan is already sixth in school history with more than 1,700 receiving yards.
Morgan said he’s excited to join Frost’s offense, which finished 2017 No. 1 nationally in scoring offense.
“I’m just ready to get back and get to work,” Morgan said.
