Scott Frost Appears on Sports Nightly to Talk Husker Football

LINCOLN – Nebraska coach Scott Frost may have overhauled his coaching staff, but he doesn’t view five new hires, including a full-time playcaller, as a reset button for the program.  Frost joined host Greg Sharpe Monday on the Sports Nightly radio show which airs on KCNI radio.

Frost talked about spring practice and where the team needs to go from here.

As Nebraska welcomes in a new set of assistant coaches, especially on the offensive side of the ball, Frost says he does not look at the situation as a complete overhaul. He said,
“We can’t change the basis of what we do and how we do it – because I’ve seen it work before, it has worked, it will work, it does work. Particularly as close as we were in almost every game last year, we’re always looking for one little way to get that much better. Major, drastic changes probably aren’t what you need.”

Nebraska went through spring practice with several players out due to injuries and other circumstances. Frost updated that situation and said that it did help in building depth at certain positions with the ability to get some players more reps in the spring that them may not have gotten otherwise.

A position that Nebraska is very thin at currently is on the defensive line. Frost said Nebraska had to “curtail practice” to protect against its defensive line getting too many physical reps. NU will look into the transfer portal to add players to the program. Frost said NU unexpectedly lost linemen before the spring camp – Deontre Thomas and Jordon Riley both left – while Casey Rogers transferred out just after spring camp.

Nebraska will kick off the 2022 college football season against Northwestern in Ireland on August 27th.
