Platteview post Brady Heiman received a scholarship offer from Nebraska on Sunday, his first from a Power Five school.

Heiman unofficially visited Nebraska for the fifth time Sunday and received an offer from coach Tim Miles before leaving Lincoln.

“I’m very excited to get the Nebraska offer,” Heiman said. “First class facilities, a great coaching staff. It’s everything you could want.”

Nebraska is the eleventh Division I school to offer Heiman, joining Drake, UNO, South Dakota, LIU-Brooklyn, Rice, Loyola Chicago, Bucknell, Milwaukee, Denver and Davidson.

“It is awesome to know that a Power Five school believes in me,” Heiman said.

Heiman averaged 15.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game last season for Platteview and will unofficially visit Creighton on Monday.

Heiman isn’t in a rush to make a decision before his senior season starts. The next step for Heiman is to take official visits.

“Getting an offer from Nebraska most likely changes my plan for official visits,” Heiman said.

Icelandic men’s basketball recruit visits Nebraska, has dinner with Tim Miles

LINCOLN — With two scholarships open for this season and two weeks to go to the start of the fall semester, Nebraska continues to look worldwide for recruits.

Such as Iceland.

Over the weekend, the Huskers got a visit from Thorir Thorbjarnarson, listed on international hoops websites between 6-foot-4 and 6-6. The left-handed shooting guard, with experience on Iceland’s age-group national teams, is immediately eligible.

The visit was first reported by Husker Online. It was confirmed by The World-Herald, which also learned Thorbjarnarson was at dinner in Lincoln on Sunday night with NU coach Tim Miles.

Miles also did some business Sunday a bit closer to home.

He offered a scholarship to 6-10 senior-to-be Brady Heiman of Platteview, about 40 miles from campus. Nebraska hasn’t had an in-state high school player accept a scholarship and play since the 2002-03 season, when Wes Wilkinson of Grand Island and Jason Dourisseau and Roy Enright of Omaha Burke were true freshmen.

The center unofficially visited Nebraska for the fifth time Sunday, and received an offer from Miles before leaving Lincoln.

“I’m very excited to get the Nebraska offer,” said Heiman, who last week said he could play the 4 or 5 position in college. “First-class facilities, a great coaching staff. It’s everything you could want.”

Nebraska is the 11th Division I school to offer Heiman, joining Drake, UNO, South Dakota, LIU-Brooklyn, Rice, Loyola-Chicago, Bucknell, Milwaukee, Denver and Davidson.

“It is awesome to know that a Power Five school believes in me,” Heiman said.

Heiman has led Platteview to the Class B state tournament each of the past two years, ending a 16-year drought for the school.

Heiman, who will unofficially visit Creighton on Monday, averaged 13 points, 10.1 rebounds and 7.4 blocks a game as a sophomore before averaging 15.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks last season.

Heiman isn’t in a rush to make a decision before his senior year starts. The next step for Heiman is to take official visits.

“Getting an offer from Nebraska most likely changes my plan for official visits,” Heiman said.

The recruitment of Thorbjarnarson, who turned 19 in May, was unexpected.

He played in the 2016 FIBA European Under-18 championship, averaging 19.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He had a 33-point game in that event.

Last month, moving up to Iceland’s under-20 team, he averaged 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the FIBA tournament on the island of Crete.
