CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Nebraska finished the Miami Thanksgiving Classic by rolling past Radford 77-39 Sunday.
The Huskers, who snapped a two-game losing streak, controlled both ends of the floor.
Maddie Simon and freshmen Ashtyn Veerbeek and Leigha Brown led a balanced offense with 13 points apiece — a career high for Veerbeek and Brown.
On defense, the Huskers held Radford, which was the preseason favorite in the Big South Conference, to a season-low 24.6 percent from the floor, including 1 of 16 on 3-pointers.
In its first four games, Nebraska had allowed an average of 79 points.
The Huskers took control early, building a 12-2 lead less than four minutes into the game. A 3-pointer by Veerbeek, who also grabbed nine rebounds, made it 20-8 at the 2:09 mark.
Nebraska stretched its lead to 30-15 on a Brown basket with 5:30 left in the half.
Radford scored six straight early in the second half to cut Nebraska’s lead to 37-28, and the Highlanders were within nine with 3:30 left in the third quarter.
But it was all Nebraska after that. The Huskers outscored Radford 35-6 the rest of the way. Brown hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the third quarter to help put NU up 53-35 heading to the fourth.
Nebraska also scored the last 15 points of the game.
Veerbeek hit three 3-pointers Sunday, her first 3s this season.
Kate Cain added eight points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for the Huskers, who shot 47.7 percent from the field. Nebraska also won the rebounding battle 46-41 while committing nine turnovers.
Khiana Johnson led Radford with 13 points and Destinee Walker added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Nebraska will play two more road games this week, starting with a matchup against No. 5 Louisville on Thursday, which is part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
