Nebraska to face Seton Hall in 2018 Gavitt Games; Creighton will host Ohio State

Creighton will host Ohio State as part of the annual Gavitt Games, and Nebraska will take on Seton Hall in Lincoln.

It’ll be the fourth edition of the Gavitt Games, which is an eight-game nonconference challenge between the Big Ten and Big East. Nebraska will play on Nov. 14, and Creighton will follow the next day. Tipoff times have not yet been announced, but all games will be televised on either Fox Sports 1 or the Big Ten Network.

CU lost to Indiana in 2015, beat Wisconsin in 2016 and won at Northwestern last year. Nebraska has not won in the Gavitt Games, losing to Villanova in 2015 and St. John’s in 2017.

Ohio State was the school that had a head coaching vacancy last summer and attempted to lure Creighton coach Greg McDermott. The Buckeyes ultimately chose Chris Holtmann, the former Butler coach who won Big Ten coach of the year last season and won that same award in the Big East in 2017.

OSU reached the NCAA tournament’s second round last season and finished second in the Big Ten. But the Buckeyes will be replacing three of their top five scorers, including All-America forward Keita Bates-Diop.

Creighton is 3-5 all-time against Ohio State. The last meeting came in 2004 at the Guardians Classic in Kansas City. CU won that game 65-63.

Seton Hall also made the second round of last season’s NCAA tournament. The Pirates finished 22-12 overall — their third straight 20-win season — and third in the Big East.
