LINCOLN — Sophomore guard Thomas Allen’s name has been entered into the NCAA transfer portal, according to a source inside the Nebraska basketball program.
The 6-foot-1, 184-pound shooter wait to make a decision on if he’ll leave Nebraska after a new head coach is hired, and after he’s gauged interest from other schools.
Tim Miles was fired from Nebraska on Tuesday after seven seasons. Allen is the first player to enter the portal since Miles’ firing.
Allen, a former four-star, was one of Miles’ top recruits in the 2017 class. He averaged 8.7 points per game this season, shooting 43 percent from the floor and 35 percent from 3-point range. He started in 25 of 29 games this year, playing about 30 minutes.
Allen suffered a high-ankle sprain at Michigan in mid-March, sidelining him for the rest of the season.
Jim Molinari will serve as Nebraska basketball interim head coach, Bill Moos announces
LINCOLN — Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos announced Wednesday that Jim Molinari will serve as interim head coach for the Husker men’s basketball team.
“It has been my practice to designate someone to be in charge during a time of transition,” Moos said in a press release. “Because Jim has experience as a head coach, I can be confident that every aspect of the program will be monitored.”
Molinari has served on the Husker coaching staff since 2014, and also has served as a head coach at Western Illinois, Minnesota, Bradley and Northern Illinois.
Moos said Tuesday that he anticipates the search for a head coach will take between seven and 14 days, and that former Iowa State and Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg is on his list of candidates.
