Nebraska Signee McGowens Selected for Iverson Classic

Nebraska signee Bryce McGowens will have one more opportunity to showcase his skills before coming to Lincoln, as the high school senior has been chosen to play in the 2021 Allen Iverson Roundball Classic this May.

The Iverson Classic takes place in Memphis, Tenn., on May 7-8, and is the only national all-star game this year, as the McDonald’s All-American Game and The Jordan Brand Classic were both canceled over COVID-related restrictions. McGowens’ team will be coached by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, while the other squad is coached by Rasheed Wallace and Bonzi Wells.

McGowens, the first five-star signee in school history, was named MaxPreps Player of the Year this season as he averaged 21.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest for Legacy Early College and Coach BJ Jackson.  A consensus top-25 recruit who is ranked as high as 19th nationally, he was the leading scorer at the St. James NIBC Invitational, posting 20.9 points per contest in seven appearances in a field featuring many of the country’s top teams. He finished his four-year career with more than 2,300 points.
