Nebraska hires Mark Hankins as men’s golf coach, Sean Maymi as men’s tennis coach

Nebraska has hired new head coaches for the men’s tennis and golf programs.

Mark Hankins will take over the Husker golf team after spending the last two years as an assistant athletic director at Iowa. Sean Maymi, previously the associate head coach at Michigan, will lead the tennis team.

Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos announced last month that he was not renewing the contracts of former men’s golf coach Bill Spangler and tennis coach Kerry McDermott.

Hankins, who was also a member of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee, led Iowa to six straight NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-14. He coached three All-Americans and 11 first-team All-Big Ten honorees during his seven seasons with Iowa.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I join the Nebraska athletic department and have the opportunity to lead a group of talented young men in striving to put Husker men’s golf in a position to compete for Big Ten championships and selection to the NCAA men’s golf championships,” Hankins said in a press release.

Maymi helped lead Michigan to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament last season as the Wolverines finished 14th in the final rankings. Michigan made the NCAA tournament eight times during his nine seasons as an assistant.

“I am motivated to lead this program and challenge these young men to achieve great things on and off the court,” Maymi said in a press release.
