Jake Hohensee, Nebraska’s most dominant pitcher this spring, won’t travel far to begin his professional baseball career.

The graduated senior and Lincoln East product has signed with the Lincoln Saltdogs, the independent team announced Friday afternoon. The 24-year-old Hohensee earned 13 saves and a 1.05 ERA while striking out 28 batters in 25⅔ innings this spring.

In a mild surprise, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound right-hander was not selected during the 40-round Major League Baseball draft that wrapped up Wednesday evening. He missed all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery and flashed dominance at times while serving as Nebraska’s Friday starter for most of 2017.

The Saltdogs are playing a three-game series with the Cleburne Railroaders this weekend at Haymarket Park, which is also the Huskers’ home field.
