Jordan Burroughs, James Green and Thomas Gilman make world championship team

LINCOLN — Three wrestlers with area ties will compete for Team USA at the UWW Freestyle World Championships in October.

Former Huskers Jordan Burroughs (163 pounds) and James Green (154) as well as former Iowa All-American and Omaha Skutt graduate Thomas Gilman (126) won their weight classes Saturday night during Final X at the Devaney Center.

Burroughs, a five-time world champion, made his eighth consecutive world team by dominating two-time NCAA champion Isaiah Martinez. Burroughs won the first matchup 4-1 before scoring the last 11 points in an 11-1 technical fall.

Green, a two-time world medalist, defeated former training partner Jason Chamberlain 2-0 and 2-1 to advance.

Gilman, who was a world silver medalist last year, swept Daton Fox 6-3 and 2-1. Gilman trailed 3-2 at the break in the first match before establishing control.

The world championships will take place Oct. 20 to 28 in Budapest, Hungary.
