LINCOLN — Surprise, surprise. Miramar (Florida) wide receiver Dominick Watt wrote on Twitter Thursday night he had one to share at midnight. So, once the clock struck that time in the Sunshine State, he announced he was committing to Nebraska, a school he’s yet to see in person.
A four-star prospect according to Rivals and a high three-star recruit according to ESPN and 247 Sports Composite service, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Watt had recently scheduled official visits to Nebraska for Feb. 2 and Pittsburgh for this weekend. He’d canceled a visit to NU back in December. Now, he’s another highly-rated receiver in a class stuffed with pass-catchers.
Watt caught 26 passes for 512 yards last season at Miramar, where he played for his senior year. Miramar coach A.J. Scott raved about Watt in a December interview with The World-Herald. Scott said Watt was selfless and versatile, willing to play any position. He kicked and punted for Miramar. Then, when the long snapper got hurt — and there were no suitable replacements — Watt became the long snapper.
Scott said Watt loved working out in the weight room and that physicality translated to the field.
“Any 50/50 ball, that’s Dom’s ball,” Scott said in December.
Previously, Watt spent three years at Hollywood (Florida) McArthur High School. Watt had offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and South Florida, among others.
Watt joins a class that includes one receiver — East Mississippi Community College transfer Mike Williams — who’s already enrolled, and three more — Jaron Woodyard, Justin McGriff and Katerian Legrone — who have committed. McGriff and Legrone could play tight end or H-back, as well. Also on Thursday night, Fort Lauderdale (Florida) American Heritage athlete Miles Jones committed to NU. Jones is listed as an “offensive weapon” who could play running back or slot receiver.
NU now has 18 commits/signees in the class. As of late Thursday night, the Huskers’ class had risen to No. 27 nationally according to 247 Sports Composite service and No. 29 according to Rivals. ESPN has Nebraska rated No. 32 but hadn’t added Watt’s commit yet.
