Husker volleyball team will take No. 14 ranking into start of Big Ten play

Nebraska’s loss to unranked Northern Iowa cost it some ground in the new AVCA Top 25 released Monday.

The Huskers, after climbing back to No. 10 a week ago with a sweep of UCLA, slipped to No. 14 as they prepare for the start of Big Ten play. Nebraska is now 7-3.

The top seven spots went unchanged, including a trio of Big Ten teams: Minnesota at No. 1, Penn State at No. 2 and Wisconsin at No. 5. Creighton fell from No. 8 to No. 15.

Nebraska beat Kansas State and UNO at the Omaha Challenge, but lost in four sets to Northern Iowa. That helped the Panthers enter this week’s AVCA ratings at No. 22.

NU this week plays at Penn State on Friday and at Rutgers on Saturday.

Two losses bump Creighton down to No. 15 in updated AVCA ratings

Creighton is out of the volleyball Top 10 for the first time this season.

The Bluejays lost matches to Wichita State and Iowa State last weekend at the Shocker Volleyball Classic, dropping them to 7-4 and from No. 8 to No. 15 in the AVCA poll released Monday. Wichita State joined the ratings at No. 24 and ISU moved up one spot to No. 18.

Creighton hadn’t been outside the Top 10 since prior to the NCAA tournament last season.

CU now moves on to Big East play, hosting Georgetown on Friday night and Villanova on Sunday at Sokol Arena.
