LINCOLN — Nebraska basketball has offered a scholarship to a transfer from Robert Morris in Pittsburgh and is evaluating former Papillion-La Vista all-stater Ed Chang, The World-Herald confirmed Monday.

Husker assistant Michael Lewis is scheduled to meet the 6-foot-8, 180-pound Chang on Tuesday, while other coaches will see 6-foot-4, 180-pound Dachon Burke on Wednesday.

Chang was a two-time All-Nebraska pick and was the state’s top-ranked player before he committed to Washington in July 2017 and moved to Seattle for his senior season. But Chang never gained eligibility to play.

He decommitted from Washington last week. Oklahoma State offered the same day. Chang originally picked UW over Nebraska, Creighton, St. John’s and Drake. He would enroll as a freshman.

Burke will have to sit out a year before having two more years to play.

The sophomore guard from Orange, New Jersey, had a breakout year at Robert Morris, earning second-team All-Northeast Conference.

He averaged 17.6 points — a 10-point increase over his freshman year — along with 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals. He shot 45.9 percent overall and 33.8 percent on 3-pointers.

Burke, who was fourth in the conference in scoring and first in steals, also was a candidate for defensive player of the year. Robert Morris finished 16-17 overall and 9-9 in the league, which Wagner won.

New Pitt coach Jeff Capel is scheduled for a home visit with Burke on Tuesday before Nebraska’s visit on Wednesday.

Other schools that have inquired about him include Arizona, Marquette, Wichita State, St. John’s and Miami.

Nebraska has two open scholarships for the coming season. A third likely will become available, as November signee Xavier Johnson from Arlington, Virginia, has said he wants a release, and NU officials have said they would grant it if an official request is made.
