Former Husker quarterback Patrick O’Brien, who decided in the spring to transfer from Nebraska, has committed to Colorado State.

O’Brien announced his decision Friday on Twitter, saying he is “so thankful to be given another opportunity to play football at another amazing university.” O’Brien must sit out next season and will be eligible to compete in 2019.

O’Brien left Nebraska because he wasn’t a fit for new coach Scott Frost’s offense. His departure left the Huskers with three quarterbacks vying for the starting job next season: Tristan Gebbia, Adrian Martinez and Andrew Bunch. A fourth, Noah Vedral, is sitting out next season after transferring from Central Florida.

O’Brien, a former four-star recruit from California, completed 18 of 30 passes at Nebraska, all in mop-up duty behind Tanner Lee in 2017.

Colorado State, which runs a pro-style offense under coach Mike Bobo and first-year offensive coordinator Dave Johnson, went 7-6 last season and finished second in its division of the Mountain West.
