Five Lady Huskers Earn WGCA Scholastic Honors

Nebraska continued a long tradition of academic success in 2019-20 with five Huskers being named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Scholastic All-America Team announced on Monday, June 29.

The Huskers, who lead the nation with 82 all-time WGCA Scholar All-Americans, were headlined by fifth-year senior Haley Thiele from Wahoo, Neb. She became the sixth Husker in history to win the national academic honor four times, joining Jackie Beste, Allison Stewart, JC Stevenson, Madeleine Sheils and Steffi Neisen among the four-time Husker honorees.

Sophomores Kirsten Baete (Beatrice, Neb.) and Megan Whittaker (Elkhorn, Neb.) added the second WGCA Scholastic All-America awards of their careers, while Minnesotans Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes) and Leah Herzog (Red Wing) captured the first WGCA accolades of their Husker careers.

Overall, 1,401 women’s golfers across all college divisions were named to the 2020 WGCA Scholastic All-America Team, which requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
