With Memorial Stadium expected to be at capacity for Nebraska’s spring game, fans are encouraged to arrive early Saturday to see Scott Frost and the Huskers take the field.
But what else do fans need to know before they head to Lincoln for the spring game? Here are some reminders and other information, courtesy of the Nebraska athletic department.
> The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network — and its streaming service BTN2GO — beginning at 11 a.m. Nebraska graduates Kevin Kugler, Ameer Abdullah and Damon Benning will be on the call.
>> Husker Sports Network will provide radio coverage, beginning at 9 a.m. Greg Sharpe, Matt Davison and Brenden Stai will have the radio call.
>> The Husker Nation Pavilion will be open from 8 a.m. to kickoff. Inflatables, face painting and other family-friendly options will be available.
>> Get an autograph from former Huskers Lavonte David, Prince Amukamara and Will Compton at the First National Bank Autograph Zone in Husker Nation Pavilion from 9-10 a.m.
>> The Nebraska volleyball team will be signing autographs at the Ed Weir track stadium from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Fans should enter at the west end of the stadium, between the Hawks Championship Center and Memorial Stadium. The Husker volleyball team will also receive their national championship rings at halftime of the spring game.
>> The Nebraska Athletic Development & Ticketing office, located in the Stadium Drive parking garage, will open Saturday at 8 a.m. The game is sold out, but the office will be open for will-call ticket pickup and other ticket issues.
>> Everyone in attendance must have a ticket, regardless of age. No lap tickets for children under the age of 2 will be available.
>> Fans are encouraged to enter the gate printed on their tickets for easiest access to their seats, though fans may use any gate that is open. The following gates will be closed Saturday: Gates 6, 8, 17, 19, 21 and 22. Gates 1, 18 and 23 will close shortly after kickoff.
>> Regular-season Memorial Stadium policies will be in place, including the clear bag policy. Fans are also remined that open umbrellas are now allowed in the stadium. Click here for more information on gameday policies.
>> The Drug Free Pledge moved to pre-game in 2016, and those taking the pledge will do so for their seats. The changes began as a safety measure.
>> Nebraska will honor nearly 50 football players named to the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team during pregame ceremonies, approximately 20 minutes before kickoff. The team honors outstanding community outreach efforts.
> The national anthem will take place at approximately 10:50 a.m. and include an American flag in the shape of the continental United States. An 80-person barbershop chorus will perform the anthem.
>> UNL Parking Services will cashier Lot 9 (14th and Avery parking garage) and other campus lots for public parking. The charge will be $5 per vehicle and cashiered lots will open at 7 a.m. Public parking will also be available at Haymarket Park and the Pinnacle Bank Arena festival parking lot for $10.
>> Shuttle services will be available beginning at 9 a.m. for $5 per adult each way and $5 round-trip for kids. Shuttles will pick up at South Pointe Pavilion (27th and Pine Lake) and North Star High School (5801 N 33rd St.).
>> Game rosters will be available at concession stands throughout Memorial Stadium for $1.
>> The emergency text messaging service will be in effect. For fan assistance, text to 69050 and start your message with UNLPD.
Fans returning to the Haymarket area after the game are asked to use the city’s preferred walking path on T Street, crossing 10th and 9th Streets.
Husker spring game forecast: ‘cloudy and just a little bit damp’
A storm system that had threatened to put a damper on the Husker spring game isn’t expected to be much of a factor.
Brett Rathbun, meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc., The World-Herald’s private weather consultant, said the worst of the storm is expected to track further south, through Texas and Oklahoma.
Lincoln could see a little bit of rain and perhaps drizzle during the game, but nothing that would make the event miserable.
“For much of the game, it will mainly be cloudy and just a little bit damp,” he said. Temperatures during the game are likely to be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Winds are expected to be blowing about 8 to 16 mph, he said.
While there’s a chance the forecast could change and bring a bit more rain to the game, Rathbun said AccuWeather has a high degree of confidence that the worst of the rain will stay to the south.
