COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a game in which Nebraska led 3-0 after its half of the third and then scored 11 runs in the final three innings, Ohio State still escaped with a 15-14 win Sunday.
The teams combined for 41 hits as the Buckeyes chased starter Matt Warren in the fourth inning and continued to do damage against the NU bullpen. OSU (19-8, 2-1 Big Ten) scored four runs in the fourth and seventh around three-run innings in the fifth and sixth to take a 15-6 lead.
Aided by an error, the Huskers cut the lead to 15-12 in the eighth. Scott Schreiber, who already had four hits and three RBIs on the day, came to the plate representing the tying run. But closer Seth Kinker struck out the first baseman to end the inning.
Any inning later, NU was threatening again. Three straight two-out singles made it a one-run game with runners on first and second. But Kinker again ended that inning with a strikeout to earn a save.
After a 16-game unbeaten streak that stretched nearly two years was snapped in a 2-0 to Minnesota last Sunday, the Huskers have two straight Sunday losses in Big Ten series finales.
Mike Addante finished with four RBIs to pace Nebraska (14-14, 2-4), which plays at UNO on Tuesday.
