College softball roundup

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nebraska continued Saturday to do its part to help the Big Ten in the ACC/Big Ten softball challenge with a 6-0 victory over North Carolina State.

The Huskers are now 3-0 in the event and 6-2 overall after senior pitcher Regan Mergele had her best performance in a Nebraska uniform.

Mergele pitched a two-hitter at N.C. State’s Dail Stadium. She also struck out nine with four walks to give the Huskers their second win over the Wolfpack in as many days.

Nebraska’s offense gave Mergele plenty of support, scoring four runs in the second inning with an RBI single by catcher Bri Cassidy and an RBI double by second baseman Lexey Kneib being the two big hits. The Wolfpack also committed two errors.

NU concludes its stay in Raleigh Sunday with a 9 a.m. game against Pittsburgh.
