Cold weather ruins Nebraska baseball’s chance to take on No. 12 Mississippi State

FRISCO, Texas — The Huskers didn’t get another chance to take down a ranked team. At least not this weekend.

Nebraska’s finale at the Frisco Classic on Sunday against No. 12 Mississippi State, a College World Series qualifier last year, was canceled because of cold weather and travel restrictions.

The Huskers (4-6) went 1-1 at the tournament, beating No. 3 Texas Tech — another returning CWS qualifier — 2-1 Friday before losing a seven-run lead in an 11-10 loss to Sam Houston State on Saturday.

Nebraska’s trek through a treacherous nonconference schedule, which featured four games against defending national champ Oregon State last week, isn’t over. The Huskers return to Texas on Friday to begin a three-game set against No. 15 Baylor, which is 9-2.

The Huskers’ home opener is scheduled for March 13 against North Dakota State.
