Boston College snaps Nebraska softball’s seven-game winning streak

ATLANTA — Nebraska’s seven-game winning streak ended Sunday with a 3-0 loss to Boston College at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

First team All-ACC pitcher Jessica Dreswick surrendered three hits to earn the shutout. Only Taylor Otte, Alyvia Simmons and Alexis Perry managed hits.

The Huskers (8-2) had plenty of chances with three hits, two Eagles errors and four walks, but they stranded 10 runners on base.

Boston College scored two runs in the first inning and one more in the second off NU starter Kaylan Jablonski. The senior from Omaha Skutt gave up the three runs and struck out three Boston College batters to take her first loss of the season.

Nebraska will next play Friday in the Mary Nutter Classic in Palm Springs, California.

NU sophomore Tristen Edwards is Big Ten softball player of the week after another hot stretch

Another big week, another Big Ten honor for Nebraska sophomore Tristen Edwards.

The outfielder-infielder was named Big Ten softball player of the week after contributing two doubles, one home run and five RBIs as the Huskers went 3-1 during the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Atlanta. In addition to hitting .333 (4 for 12), she slugged .750, drew two walks and did not strike out.

Edwards a week ago was named Big Ten co-player of the week. She becomes the first Husker to be named conference player of the week twice in the same season since 2012 (Brook Thomason) and the third Husker ever to win the award back-to-back weeks, joining Lisa Wangler (2003, Big 12) and Ruth Chatwin (1989, Big Eight).

Edwards has reached base in all 10 games this season, and is hitting a team-high .455 with 10 RBIs.

NU (8-2) this week travels to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California.
