The Hastings Sodbusters are happy to announce the signing of 4 local players. Cedric Moreno
(Grand Island), Ryan Krolikowski (Grand Island), Peyton Pocock (Kearney) and Ryan Koski (Kearney) will join the Sodbusters for their inaugural season. Head coach Bryan Frew is thrilled to add more local talent to his roster.
“The fact that the Tri-City area has so much talent playing college baseball and beyond, makes my job as a coach very easy to find players. These guys are contributing at high levels in college and have the ability to ride their talent even further,” Frew said.
Cedric Moreno currently attends Wayne State University. After redshirting his freshman season, the coaching staff expects him to be a weekday starter or a top bullpen arm for conference games in his first spring of college ball. With a sharp breaking ball and lively fastball, Moreno has the pitching mix to excel at the next level. He spent his high school years dominating for the Grand Island Islanders and Home Federal American Legion, posting a combined record of 12-2 and an earned-run average just over 2.
Ryan Krolikowski spent his high school career driving in a lot of runs for Grand Island teams.
He was a cog in the middle of both the Home Federal and Islander lineups for years. At Cloud County Community College in Kansas, Krolikowski kept on hitting. In his freshman year, he finished with a .304 batting average, a .401 on-base percentage, and a .449 slugging percentage. Krolikowski tallied 4 home runs. He also made 21 appearances on the mound, showing his ability to be a successful 2-way player at the next level. Ryan will DH, play first base and pitch for his former legion coach, Frew, in the summer of 2018.
Peyton Pocock is a sophomore that looks to get significant innings for the University of
Nebraska-Kearney this upcoming spring. As a freshman, Pocock pitched 20.1 innings in 10
appearances and two starts. He posted a 6.20 earned-run average without earning a pitching decision. The coaching staff sees Peyton as a polished pitcher considering his youth and expect big things out of the Kearney native in 2018.
Ryan Koski, another Kearney native, will play his first season at Northwest Missouri State in 2018. Good size, speed and great athleticism make him a great addition to the spacious outfield at Duncan Field. On top of his defensive abilities, Koski is also a threat at the plate. With gap-to-gap power and a knack for the big hit, Koski can change the landscape of the game very quickly when he steps up to the plate.
The Sodbusters are looking forward to their inaugural season, beginning on May 25.
