HASTINGS – The area’s new summer baseball franchise has its first signing.

The Hastings Sodbusters announced on Tuesday the team has officially signed local Hastings baseball standout Brooks Asher.

Asher just wrapped up his freshman year at the University of Kansas where he redshirted for the Jayhawks baseball program.

The Hasting St. Cecilia product hit .271 while posting an .357 on-base percentage for Great Bend during his first season playing in the Jayhawk Summer League.

Owner, GM, and Head Coach of the Sodbusters, Bryan Frew, says Asher will primarily play catcher, but could also see time in the outfield due to Asher’s athleticism.

The Expedition League is a wooden bat summer league for top-level college talent. Its inaugural season will begin in late May of 2018.

The Hastings Sodbuster will play all home games at Duncan Field.
