UPDATE: Auburn Public Schools officials announced Sunday there will be no school Wednesday and Thursday so students, staff and fans can cheer on the state softball team in Hastings. A decision on school for Friday will be made Thursday evening.

AUBURN, Neb. – Rain made conditions unplayable at the Class C1-1 District Softball Tournament on Thursday and Friday, postponing the tournament until Saturday. But, once the conditions improved, it cleared a path for Auburn to qualify for their second-straight state tournament.

The Bulldogs snagged a late lead and defeated Conestoga, 8-5, in the district championship in Auburn.

The game was tied at four with Auburn batting in the top of the sixth when Macy Rieshick singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Conestoga evened things at four in the bottom of the fifth inning when an error scored one run.

Kylie Allen was the winning pitcher. She lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out four. Macy Rieshick started the game for Auburn, allowing four hits and two runs over three and a third innings.

Reagan Ruffner took the loss for Conestoga. She allowed nine hits and eight runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

The Bulldogs finished with 10 hits. Meg Rieschick, Mollie Grant, and Macy Rieshick each had two hits.
