Wet weather most likely will hang around the area until Thursday evening, but whether it brings snow to the area is uncertain.
The Nebraska State Patrol urges drivers to be prepared and drive cautiously. The patrol encouraged travelers to consult 511, Nebraska’s Advanced Traveler Information System, for up-to-date information. The system also can be reached online at www.511.nebraska.gov or on Nebraska 511’s smartphone app.
The band of weather could drop 8 to 12 inches of snow on parts of central Nebraska, the National Weather Service said. The storm will dump the most snow on a stretch roughly from the Kearney area to Yankton, South Dakota.
The storm might linger into Friday in northern Nebraska.
Nebraska Department of Roads workers and equipment will clear highways and monitor changes, the patrol said. State troopers also will be on highways to assist drivers in need. Drivers who become stranded may call *55 from their cellphones. But they are urged to call 911 if there is an emergency.
