Two men accused of stealing items from flood victim in Nebraska

OMAHA, NE (Omaha World-Herald News Source) – Two men were arrested Sunday in northwest Douglas County after officials say they stole building materials that were washed away by floodwaters.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Bruce Sturzenegger and 27-year-old Brett Hopkins were found dragging 40-foot roofing trusses from a wooded area near 252nd and State Streets.

A man called sheriff’s deputies to report the pair stealing his materials after his neighbor alerted him.

The trusses had been washed away by flooding and carried south of where they were stored.

The two men were booked on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking.

Deputies also found a pair of bolt cutters, five electronic devices, power tools and other items in their pickup truck, which was impounded along with a tractor.
