Taxpayers affected by flooding could get relief

OMAHA, NE (Omaha World-Herald News Service) – For those in the nine counties in Nebraska that are part of the federal disaster declaration tax season could be a little easier.

In a statement released Sunday the IRS said they will allow taxpayers in those counties to retroactively apply this month’s losses to last year’s income. In addition some deadlines for those affected by flooding have been extended.

The deadline to file income tax returns and payments has been extended to July 31st. Deadlines for quarterly income tax payments and IRA payments have also been extended to July 31st for those affected by the floods.
