Spencer Signs Letter to Compete for Huskers

COLUMBUS – Scotus is officially set to send off there second Husker track athlete in two years, after Marika Spencer signed her letter of intent on Monday.

Spencer is the newest addition to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s throwers, and says when she took her visit to campus, she knew it was where she wanted to be.

“Nebraska’s just so big and I just knew when I was there, that I wanted to go there,” says Spencer. “I was unsure up until this summer, and I was like ‘I think I wanna go for track’, because I was thinking maybe [college] softball, but track is the one for me.”

Spencer joins former Shamrock Cody Mroczek, who is in his first season as a Husker.

Scotus Activities Director Merlin Lahm says Spencer is set for a strong Senior campaign, as the defending state throwing champion, and will continue to do great things at the collegiate level.

“I don’t think people understand how athletic she is. She really does have some power. She now has our shot and our disc record, and I believe that she has a chance to be very, very successful at the next level,” says Lahm.

Spencer will compete in basketball and track, as she finishes out her Senior year, before heading off to UNL. Spencer says she plans on majoring in elementary education.
