Sidney, Iowa, post office closed by ‘catastrophic damage’ from storms

A southwest Iowa post office has temporarily closed after it sustained "catastrophic damage'' during Monday's strong thunderstorms.
Postal officials said there was no timetable for when the office in Sidney would reopen. All operations have been relocated to the post office in Hamburg, Iowa, officials said.
Post office box customers, with photo identification, may collect their mail at the Hamburg office. Hamburg office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Officials said residential and business customers will not be impacted by the closing in Sidney.
A public meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at noon at Sidney's City Hall, 604 Clay St., about the post office situation.
