Proposal calls for Northwest dissolution

GRAND ISLAND, NE (Omaha World-Herald News Service) – A proposal is calling for the dissolution of a Nebraska school district.

A committee of private residents has put forward a proposal that would dissolve the Northwest School District in Grand Island.

Under the proposal, Grand Island Public Schools would absorb the students of three schools including Northwest High School. Students in other elementary schools would be split between the Central City and Saint Paul school districts.

Members of the Save Chapman Committee told the Grand Island Independent that the dissolution would mean millions of dollars in savings.

Current Northwest school board members say they have no plans to dissolve the district.
