PERU - Peru State College removed the interim tag on Wayne Albury and made him the school's new athletic director.

Albury, who returned to coach the Bobcats' baseball team in 2016, is the school's all-time leader in wins with 700. He takes over for Kirk Kelley, who was hired in January, but left the position in May to pursue another opportunity in Oklahoma. “I would like to thank Dr. (Dan) Hanson and the committee for giving me this great opportunity," Albury said. "I am very excited about working with the administration, faculty, staff and students here at Peru State College. I believe we have an excellent athletic staff and I am anxious to continue building on the solid foundation of Bobcat Athletics.” Albury holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Union College and a master’s in health, physical education and recreation from Morehead State University (Kentucky). His other collegiate coaching experience includes Lambuth University, University of Rio Grande (Ohio), Union College (Kentucky), and Pikeville College (Kentucky).  He also managed the Portsmouth (Ohio) Explorers in the independent Frontier League.

"Wayne brings a strong commitment to character-driven athletics, a history of success as a coach, effective experience in fundraising, and a commitment to student athlete success,” Peru State President Dr. Dan Hanson said.

Peru State College is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I. They compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and feature football, volleyball, mens and womens basketball, womens cross country, baseball, womens golf, softball and cheerleading.
