Palmyra Bank Robbery Missing From FBI’s ‘Wanted’ List

NEBRASKA CITY –The Federal Bureau of Investigation starts 2018 with 13 suspects posted on its website linked to Nebraska bank robberies, but the list does not include the Nov. 18 bank robbery at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Palmyra. Otoe County sheriff’s deputies arrived  to learn that two masked men entered the bank and demanded cash at gunpoint. Chief Deputy Mike Holland said the sheriff’s office continues to cooperate with the FBI regarding the case and is currently transitioning into the statewide radio network. Holland said the radio network will help in day-to-day work, as well as cases like the Palmyra bank robbery. [audio mp3="http://media3.floodradio.com/columbus/2018/01/Holland-statewide-rado.mp3"][/audio] Holland: “The ability to communicate with surrounding agencies would have assisted greatly in coordinating finding those people that day.” Deputies developed leads after arriving in the village, but car radios currently do not connect directly to other agencies that may be working nearby. [audio mp3="http://media3.floodradio.com/columbus/2018/01/Holland-slow-process.mp3"][/audio] Holland: "At this point, as a deputy gathers that information, he has to radio dispatch and dispatch has to physically  call other agencies, or send out teletypes to other agencies, to get that message out. Then the dispatch that they call had to radio out to their officers, which slows the process greatly.” The Palmyra bank robbery came while the FBI was reporting an increase in bank robberies in rural communities. The alert came after a May 8 robbery at the Two Rivers Bank in Arlington, where there is a population of 1,200 people. The Cornerstone Bank in the village of Murray had been robbed on March 25 and the Springfield State Bank in Springfield was robbed in September. The Arlington robber had made the FBI’s list of wanted bank robbers. Less than a week after the Palmyra robbery, the The Security Home Bank in the Saunders County village of Malmo was robbed. A man in a hooded sweatshirt, a black cotton ski mask and gloves greeted the teller with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the bank’s vault. The man left with $20,479. Police pursued a white Chevy Lumina into west Omaha at speeds up to 80 miles per hour and arrested four suspects at a car wash near 114^th and Center. Arrested were James Fentress-Dismuke, Vincent McGee and Jonathan Franklin on a charge of use of a weapon to commit a felony. Corita Burnett also faces a bank robbery charge. James Fentress-Dismuke, 20, is accused of being inside the Malmo bank.
