Omaha fire union president pleads no contest to misdemeanor assault

OMAHA, NE (Omaha World-Herald News Source) – The president of the Omaha firefighters union pleaded no contest Thursday to two misdemeanor charges in connection with an assault of a woman at a bar.

49-year-old Steve LeClair is scheduled to be sentenced in June on charges of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.

The charges stemmed from interactions with a woman who told police he punched her and made a racist remark. LeClair faces up to six months in jail and a fine on each charge.

The victim told authorities a man who looked like LeClair had tried to come onto her three times in November at Tiger Tom’s Pub in Omaha, ending in the alleged assault.

Omaha Fire Chief Dan Olsen recommended firing LeClair in late February.

According to city officials, LeClair is on paid administrative leave.
